Devices in the field operate under constraints that data-center systems do not: intermittent connectivity, tight power budgets, hardware that stays deployed for a decade, and physical access by anyone who reaches it. This category examines that infrastructure as it is actually built — starting with location and tracking, where the assumption that positioning means GPS has quietly stopped being true for most commercial logistics fleets.

Coverage looks at how these systems degrade rather than how they are specified. GNSS signals arriving from 20,200 km away are weak enough to be blocked by a warehouse roof and cheap enough to spoof; hybrid stacks that fuse satellite, cellular, and Wi-Fi positioning exist because single-source location was never reliable enough on its own. The same lens applies to the rest of the fleet stack: what happens when the assumed conditions do not hold.
